Actress Cecilia Cheung's car hits man

Actress Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi, whose HK$1.26 million Range Rover was involved in an accident that left an elderly man injured yesterday afternoon, was allowed to leave the scene of the crash after helping police with their inquiries.

Police said Cheung, 30, was driving the black vehicle along Repulse Bay Road at about 2.30pm when it hit Cheng Tak-yau, 68, near the junction with South Bay Road.

The actress and her female passenger were uninjured but Cheng, a cleaner, suffered fractures to his left leg and was taken to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam.

Cheng said he was hit in the leg and chest and was 'afraid of becoming disabled'.

He said someone had got out of the car to check on him.

Wearing a face mask, the actress did not talk to the press at the site of the crash. Cheung remained in her vehicle until she was allowed to leave.

Without identifying the actress, a police spokeswoman said the driver passed a breath test and no one was arrested.

The car, a Range Rover Sport model, was bought for HK$1.26 million last year by a company of which Cheung is a director.
