Banner of Command Removed from League of Legends in Patch 8.12

Banner of Command has been removed in League of Legends Patch 8.12 as developer Riot Games evaluates its place in the game.

According to the patch notes, Banner of Command was in a state where the item would not be used, or it would be used in a way the developers did not intend it to be. As a result, Riot took the action of removing it from League of Legends as a whole.

"We’re removing Banner from the shop and taking a step back to evaluate if this item niche is both engaging and fun enough to work in League," the developer wrote. "Even if that answer is 'yes,' Banner would need some serious work to make a return, so this is goodbye for the foreseeable future."

Banner of Command was intended to Promote on a lane minion, granting it a Turret shield and promoting it to take less damage and do more damage to turrets. All gold gained by the minion went to the champion who promoted it. Because of those two effects, some players would carry the item in positions other than support, to maximize the potential for games to snowball out of control.

Other items changes includes Sterak's Gage changing its passive that now grants 50% bonus attack damage instead of base damage, balancing out the item to be more attack damage focused as opposed to having more synergy with Trinity Force. Maw of Malmortius shield now works as intended, properly lasting the full 5 seconds.

League of Legends Patch 8.12 also included champion changes highlighted by Elise, various item changes and the addition of the Playmaker Lee Sin and Sweeper Rammus skins.
