She is a political journalist
Borromeo is well known in her home country as a hard-hitting reporter and documentary filmmaker. The 35-year-old royal has written for newspapers and hosted news television and radio shows. Unafraid to tell truthful stories, she has interviewed Italian politicians and exposed corruption and other forms of injustices.
She has a law degree
Before receiving her master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University in the US, Borromeo graduated with a bachelor’s degree in law from Bocconi University in Milan. She was attending the prestigious school when she first crossed paths with her future husband, who was studying international economics and management there at the time.
She directed a documentary about women in the mafia
Borromeo has also produced documentaries that focus on sensitive social issues, from Italian women in the mafia (Mamma Mafia in 2013) to environmental problems. After marrying into the Monégasque royal family, however, she began striking a balance between raising her two boys, Stefano and Francesco, and running her own documentary film company called Astrea Films.
“Inclusion, equality, unity”
When recently asked by Forbes if she still considers herself an atheist, she simply said that her values centre on “inclusion, equality, unity” and that she teaches her kids “to treat everyone the same, no matter the colour of their skin or their religious beliefs”.
