BrightStar Credit Union appoints Michael Tomko as CEO

Michael Tomko, a former Jacksonville credit union executive, has been appointed president and CEO of BrightStar Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in South Florida.

Tomko replaces Colin Battle, who was serving as interim CEO, BrightStar announced Wednesday.

“Mr. Tomko’s personal philosophy of providing outstanding member service and always doing what is right for the members fits perfectly with BrightStar Credit Union’s philosophy of ‘people helping people,’ ” Dorothy Orr, BrightStar Credit Union’s board chairperson, said in a written statement.

Before joining BrightStar, Tomko was the senior vice president of operations at Community First Credit Union in Jacksonville. He began his banking career 29 years ago as a certified fraud examiner and has worked in operations, lending and retail banking at First Union, Colonial Bank and First National Bank of Florida.

Based in Sunrise, BrightStar Credit Union has more than 54,000 members and has seven branches in Broward County.
