Lemke is originally from Omaha, Nebraska. She is married to her husband, who hosts a country music radio show in Atlanta. The couple has no children.
Right from her childhood, Cheryl was always amazed by the power of nature and nature’s phenomenons like tornados, thunderstorms and hurricanes.

After finishing high school, Cheryl moved to Iowa to attend Iowa State University in 1978 & graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology in1982.
After her first degree, she furthered her studies at the University of Nebraska, taking a course in broadcasting and communications. She graduated in 1983.

Most of Cheryl’s working life was spent at The Weather Channel (TWC), where she spent around 22 years there from 1986 to 2008.
As the channel’s On-air meteorologist, she delivered local, regional and national weathe reports. She even represented the channel for cable/affiliate sales promotional events. Lemke has reported from remote locations and anchored breaking weather events.
The coverage of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was one of Lemke’s career’s most memorable events.
From 2008-2009, TWC laid off a number of talented meteorologists including Cheryl & others such as Kristina Abernathy, Eboni Deon, Kristin Dodd, Rich Johnson and Mark Mancuso.
For her work on reporting extreme weather phenomena, she has been awarded seals of approval by the National Weather Association (NWA) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
Over the course of her career, she has worked with other networks such as WTHI-TV, WOI-TV and WHO-TV.
Currently, she is the Chief Meteorologist of Newschannel 20.
