I dint know if the starter set rules were ever available in PDF before but FYI they are now from WotC to support gaming at home.

Note there are a lot of cool things there too.

I don't think the Starter Set rule-book differs much from the Basic rule-book, which has been available in PDF form for years. That's how I first got into 5E.

Yup, but I found the starter set rulebook easier to digest for brand new folks. And I think the ven diagram isn’t completely overlapping, but I’d have to double check.
