‘DROP ZONE’ CREATES HEADY ADRENALINE RUSH

In a world of 9 to 5 schedules and TV dinners, Americans look to Hollywood movies to add a little spice to their monotonous lives. Drop Zone, shot in South Florida, is definitely one of the best action films produced to feed Americans’ hunger for excitement.

Starring Wesley Snipes, whose box office hits include Rising Sun, Demolition Man and White Men Can’t Jump, Drop Zone’s fast tempo and thrilling plot is undoubtedly a joy for any action movie buff.

As in his previous films, Snipes plays a rough and witty character who is livelier than the Energizer Bunny.

The film is centered around Pete Nelson, a U.S. Marshal, played by Snipes, who must infiltrate the world of exhibition sky diving to catch the drug-smuggling sky divers responsible for the death of his younger brother Terry, played by Malcolm-Jamal Warner of the The Cosby Show.

Although the movie depicts the daredevil society of sky divers as not being friendly to outsiders, Snipes character manages to break this barrier with the help of his sky-diving teacher, played by Yancy Butler (star of NBC’s flopped South Beach).

“Action” Snipes proves that adventure flows through his veins in this spectacular performance with every scene leaving the viewer about to fall out of his or her chair.

Butler, whose character is sort of “wonderwoman,” also is incredibly powerful in Drop Zone. This film’s only true disappointment is that the relationship between Butler’s and Snipes’ characters do not evolve romantically despite how close they become. Although the movie’s plot hinted at the possibility of “love,” perhaps the film’s writers are trying to make the statement that men and women can be friends.

Drop Zone’s aerial scenes and stunts are perhaps the movie’s most exciting parts. Most people can’t imagine jumping off a second story, let alone a plane. What made the scenes even more spectacular was that they were filmed in South Florida, including Miami, Key Largo and Key West. A few of the locations that may be familiar to some South Floridians include: Alabama Jack’s on Card Sound Road, Linderman Key off North Key Largo, and Sugarloaf Airport.

Drop Zone combines an outstanding cast, incredible stunts, suspense and thrills to truly create an adrenaline rush.
