Former Miami Finance Director Manohar Surana pleaded guilty Monday to one count of conspiracy in a 5-year-old case that sent a city manager and commissioner to prison.
As part of the plea bargain, federal prosecutors agreed not to pursue a similar charge against his son, Pamit Surana, 30. The government had renewed money laundering and extortion charges against them in January after the father failed to follow through on a promised guilty plea.
The elder Surana, 57, worked undercover for the government after he was accused of taking bribes for city contracts. He wore an FBI wire that led to the convictions of former City Manager Cesar Odio and former Commissioner Miller Dawkins. Also caught was former County Commissioner James C. Burke.
Sentencing was set for Oct. 15. Under the plea agreement, Surana would receive a year and a day.
