GLENN DAVIS, TRACTOR/TRUCK PULLER

After his sixth grand national championship in November, Glenn Davis watched with pride as a documentary on his 17-year career in tractor/truck pulling competition was shown at an awards banquet in Houston.

That film is now a memorial to the Hollywood native, who was electrocuted on Friday. Mr. Davis was fixing a wiring system on the vehicle used to haul his four-wheel puller across the country when it short-circuited.

A funeral for Mr. Davis, 33, will be at 2 p.m. today at Davie United Methodist Church, 6500 SW 47th St.

Mr. Davis’ four-wheeler, nicknamed “Mister Sparkle,” will lead the procession to the church.

Since he was 17, Mr. Davis has attached his specially equipped four-wheel drive to a sled, revved up the engine and pulled his way into a role among the higher echelon of the sport.

Mr. Davis was such a standout in tractor/truck pulling that the November 1993 Nationals in Houston served as an exhibition for him. He already had accumulated enough points on the circuit to be the national champion regardless of his showing in what would be his final event.

Along with being a six-time grand national champion, Mr. Davis, who recently moved from Hollywood to Davie, was named three times as National Tractor/Truck Puller of the Year.

Mr. Davis, a graduate of McArthur High School, took a year off from the tractor/truck pulling circuit to build a home for his family in the Davie area.

He is survived by his wife, Tania; his mother and father, Shirley and Herb Sr.; three brothers, Herb Jr., Roy and Wally; a sister, Debra; and 13 nieces and nephews.
