FORT LAUDERDALE — Eddie Gonzolas scored three goals to record the hat trick as the Cardinal Gibbons boys’ soccer team defeated Dillard 3-1 to remain unbeaten.
The Redskins improved to 3-0, while Dillard fell to 0-2-2.
Luigi Restrepo, Roger Carenhammer and Richie Palhauf each had an assist. Goalie Dan Blasky had five saves.
Northeast 1, Stranahan 0: Chris Rice’s goal midway through the second half was enough as the Hurricanes (1-2-1) earned their first victory of the season. Derrick Parkin preserved the win with seven saves.
Westminster Academy 1, American Heritage 0: Goalie Darin Mayer had his second shutout in three games as the Lions (3-0) defeated American Heritage (2-1-1). Matt Dando scored the goal for Westminster Academy with an assist by Duane Millor.
Fort Lauderdale 3, Ely 1: Dirk Switken, Sandy Swartzbaugh and Tim Lockhart each scored goals for the Flying L’s (2-1-1). Goalie Ramiro Ferriol had eight saves.
Piper 2, Deerfield Beach 0: Franco Grilla and Jeff Gerchick each scored goals as Piper remained unbeaten at 4-0. Alex Terribile had three saves to record his fourth straight shutout. Deerfield Beach fell to 0-1-2.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Fort Lauderdale 2, Ely 2: Kelly Conbest’s goal off a penalty kick with three minutes remaining gave Fort Lauderdale (2-0-1) the tie. Alex Calderarol had the other goal for the Flying L’s. LaTiare Melton and Paula Gordon scored for Ely (1-2-1).
Piper 2, Deerfield Beach 2: Bonnie Goldberg scored both Piper (0-3-1) goals as the Bengals tied the Bucks. Wendy Fkinner and Tracey Renda assisted on the goals for Piper.
