Six additional schools are participating in Broward County Public Schools‘ Aftercare Supper Program, bringing the total number of schools in the program to 104.
The meals are served in the schools’ cafeterias and meet USDA nutrition requirements. Each includes milk, fruit, a vegetable, a grain, and meat or a meat substitute.
All of the 14,000 students participating in regularly scheduled after-school programs will be served, according to a statement by Maria Gebhardt, a district spokesperson. There are no income or other eligibility requirements.
The federally funded program is adminstered by the state Department of Health’s Child Care Food Program.
The newly added schools are Attucks Middle School, Charles Drew Elementary School, Lakeside Elementary School, Miramar Elementary School, New Renaissance Middle School and Silver Shores Elementary School.
The Aftercare Supper Program began in September 2014 with 42 schools and has grown to serve the following 104 schools:
