Have you ever been to Vegas? Dave & Buster’s in Hollywood is the closest thing to it this county has to offer.
With 50,000 square feet of bars, food and games, D&B; offers entertainment for the whole family.
One catch: You have to be older than 21 or have an adult with you.
Life on the Midway is limitless as long as you keep dishing out the chips. The Midway is the official name for D&B;’s huge game room, with games ranging from ordinary basketball to the high-tech Virtuality, D&B;’s version of virtual reality.
Because of the Las Vegas atmosphere, you get chips instead of tokens. A dollar gets you three chips, but bargain deals like 21 for $5 and 48 for $10 bring the price down somewhat.
For nine chips, you can climb into one of six individual command modules (seats) in the Galaxian Theater. There, you surround yourself in a battle to defend the world against an alien insect invasion.
The D&B; Speedway is an entire wall devoted to games like Formula 1 and Stock car to Superbike and Motorcross. The fun begins when you compete against the other seven players on the state-of-the-art electronically linked simulators. The Guide to Dave and Buster’s says, “Drop your chips in the slot and put the pedal to the metal.”
A 40-foot long Midway Bar is located in the center of the game room. Tables surrounding the bar offer the hard-working gamesman a place to grab a snack from the diverse menu and count winnings.
The Grand Dining Room isn’t the best place to be for a family get-together. The food is like the average restaurant and the atmosphere is anything but relaxing. Noise spills out from the game room, the bar and the adjacent areas with pool and virtual golf.
The age restriction is one reason to go with your parents. Another may be so they can treat; the food and the games are many times too expensive for the average working teen. One gamer left D&B; with more than 3,000 tickets, boasting that it wasn’t worth the money he had spent – over $200.
If you have the money to spend, Dave & Buster’s can make for a great afternoon with the family.
