Should stores be open on Thanksgiving?

Every Thanksgiving for the past few years, there has been the same prediction of doom and gloom.

Our way of life is over, we are told, if stores stay open on Thanksgiving.

And every year, our way of life survives just fine.

This year, there are the usual amount of stores that will open some time on Thursday or at night.

I have no problem with it at all.

If people want to shop, let them. Those who think it is a sin to shop on Thanksgiving don’t have to shop.

There must be a market for it, because stores wouldn’t open if they didn’t make money.

As for the employees who have to work on Thanksgiving, they probably get time with their family before going to work. And many will get holiday pay.

And many will be thankful just to have a job, holiday or not

Folks, it doesn’t take away from the holiday at all. Not one bit.

Thanksgiving is the best of all holidays because there is no pressure. No gifts, no religious connotation. Just the four f’s – family, football, friends, and feasting.

Some people have enough of that by early evening and they want to get out of the house. Maybe shop.

And maybe avoid the Black Friday hassle.

Shopping on Thanksgiving doesn’t kill any tradition. It’s just a new one.

What do you think? Should stores be open on Thanksgiving?
