Two men were killed Sunday night after a small plane crashed at the Lantana Airport and became engulfed in flames, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release their identities Monday afternoon.
The 2003 single-engine Diamond DA40 aircraft departed from the Williston Municipal Airport near Gainesville shortly before 7:30 p.m. and crashed shortly before 9:30 p.m., according to FlightAware. The plane is owned by a company in Henderson, Ky., and was flown there and in western Georgia earlier Sunday afternoon.
The Lantana Airport, which has no air-traffic control tower, is a six-runway airport where fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters operate and serves multiple flight schools, according to the airport’s website.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate, said Teri Barbera, a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
