UFC two-weight champion Henry Cejudo took a dig at Irish star Conor McGregor in a tweet commemorating his entry into MMA.
The Olympic gold medallist – self-titled “Triple C” as he holds the flyweight and bantamweight belts alongside his freestyle wrestling gold in 2008 – posted a photo of a tweet from seven years ago that said “well, it’s official. MMA here I come!”Above the screenshot, the 32-year-old Cejudo (professional MMA record 15-2) wrote: “How about this throwback! [Seven] years ago today you were warned to bend the knee to the Olympic champion now known as Triple C! I walk the walk not like that wannabe good guy Conor McGregor that can’t defend a [damn] takedown! #missionaccomplished”. Cejudo also tagged UFC president Dana White in the tweet.
Cejudo, who last fought Marlon Moraes in June last year, is on a five fight win streak in the UFC and was nominated for fighter of the year. The American stunned one of the greatest of all time, Demetrious Johnson, in 2018 and beat former champion TJ Dillashaw in just 32 seconds in January 2019.
Earlier in the week, Cejudo had retweeted lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s post with three photos of McGregor about to be submitted with the caption “145”, “155” and “170” pounds.
Cejudo has been known to call several fighters out, including women’s flyweight champion Zhang Weili, men’s featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and legendary boxer Vasyl Lomachenko. However, the McGregor call-out appears to be a more consistent one as he mentioned the former double champ in an interview with ESPN in October last year.
“[Being quadruple C] would separate yourself for life, man. An Olympic title and three UFC belts, that’s unheard of,” Cejudo said. “Man, Conor McGregor’s all talk, all bark, no bite. Okay, he beat some good people 10 years ago. I wanna fight Conor, I wanna be rich, too.”
