Two-and-a-half weeks after the historic rains stopped in Fort Lauderdale and surrounding communities, help.
Many people have come together to lend a hand to help their neighbors rebuild their lives and homes, but the need for assistance still remains very high. Volunteers are needed to walk door-to-door in neighborhoods. People are needed to print yard signs with basic information and to post them at comfort stations and hand out informational flyers. Spanish speakers are needed, too.
The city of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County have teamed up with United Way to recruit and organize volunteers. If you missed Saturday’s organizing event at Floyd Hull Stadium, register online at .
After registering online, you will gain access to volunteer opportunities, including leadership and support roles you can do from home.
Donations are needed. You can leave them at the Salvation Army, 1801 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, including non-perishable food, water, baby food, diapers, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, pet food and clothing.
This is a resilient and caring community. Generosity and goodness have been in abundant supply. But the full impact of this disaster continues to be felt, and as long as people are suffering, the need for help will be there, too.
