WALGREENS AND CARE CENTERS FOR ADULTS, CHILDREN GET OK

A Walgreens Drug Store, an adult day care center and children’s day care center recently received nods of approval from city commissioners.

Commissioners approved a site plan for the Walgreens to be near the northeast corner of Oakland Park Boulevard and Hiatus Road. The store will have dual drive-up windows for pharmacy items, but will not have a liquor store because it is too close to Sandpiper Elementary School. The store will share a driveway with the combined Amoco/McDonald’s at the corner.

A special exception was granted for Trinity Ministries to operate an adult day care center at 1170 Sunset Strip, in an existing building about one block north of Sunrise Boulevard. They are moving from a Lauderhill center where they cater to 28 senior citizens each day.

In Sunrise, they will expand enrollment to about 100. The center has one year to obtain the building permits required, according to city rules. The center draws it clients from Plantation, Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill and Sunrise.

A special exception was also granted for a child day care center and pre-school at the Weston Road Shoppes, near the northeast corner of Weston Road and North New River Drive. The 11,285-square-foot building on 2.8 acres will have room for 200 students ages 1 to 4 years. Hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Building permits on the day care center must be pulled within one year due to the special exception.

Commissioners approved the projects with no discussion.
